South Yorkshire Sports Awards 2009
Held at The English Institute of Sport, Sheffield,
on Wednesday, 18 November 2009

Hallamshire Hornets, Senior Men's Inline Hockey Team
have recently been nominated along with Sheffield Hatters, a ladies basketball team, and
Sheffield Steelhawks, an Under 18's Ice Hockey team,
for the South Yorkshire Sports Awards 2009, as potential Senior Team of the Year.

At this years event Hallamshire Hornets were selected as Senior Team of the Year 2009
Dave Birch of Hallamshire Hornets said
"A major factor in us being selected for the award was that we had succeeded in a major European Championship tournament".

The South Yorkshire Sports Awards is a prestigious event held each year in South Yorkshire, involving a panel of sporting experts selecting finalists from categories of individuals and/ or clubs that have contributed to the success of all sports across the county during the previous year. The categories include, Coach of the year, Young coach of the year, Unsung Hero, and many more.

Bruce Kelsey, Partnership Director of South Yorkshire Sport said:
"We were thrilled to be joined this evening by three current world champions, and the short list for both the Senior Performer and Junior Performer categories demonstrates the wealth of sporting talent in South Yorkshire.
All our finalists in every category have been outstanding in their performances and contribution to sport over the past year. We want to say a special thank you to all the volunteers and coaches who were finalists tonight and joined us for the evening - their ongoing support is vital for sport in South Yorkshire to continue to flourish."

The Hallamshire Hornets success in this tournament was recognised upon their return home to Sheffield with a Civic Reception, hosted by the Lord Mayor in June.

The Hornets are also guaranteed a return slot in next years tournament to enable them to defend their title.
