GOVERNANCE
The British Roller Sports Federation was established in 1999 at the behest of Sport England
to provide a single point of contact for the numerous UK sport QUANGO's and Government
Departments with the governing bodies of the various roller disciplines.
At the time of the formation of the BRSF there were five founding members,
BIPHA,
BiSHA,
FARS,
FISS &
NRHA.
In the UK there are a number of separate roller disciplines and within some disciplines a
number of separate Codes of Play, each with it's own governing body, a number of these
governing bodies are affiliated to the BRSF: |
|
Artistic roller skating in the UK is administered by the Federation of Artistic Roller Skating (FARS)
(website) |
|
Roller speed skating in the UK is administered by Federation Inline Speed Skating (FISS)
(website) |
|
Roller (Rink) hockey in the UK is administered by the National Roller Hockey Association (NRHA)

|
Freestyle roller skating in the UK is administered by the UK Freestyle Skating Association
(UKFSA) (website) |
| |
The rules for the conduct of international competitions for each of the FIRS roller disciplines
are set by the various FIRS Technical Committees, therefore the rules for national, regional,
and local competitions within the UK are based upon the rules published by those FIRS Technical
Committees:
Each UK roller discipline governing body following FIRS rules, maintains direct contact with
the appropriate FIRS technical committee. |
|
The FIRS technical committee for Artistic Roller Skating is Comité International de
Patinage Artistique (CIPA)
(

|
The FIRS technical committee for Speed Skating is Comité International de Course (CIC)
(website) |
|
The FIRS technical committee for Rink Hockey is Comité International de Rink Hockey (CIRH)

Hockey Association (iiSHF)

|
The international technical committee for FIRS Code Freestyle skating is World Slalmon Skater

(website) |
| |
Each discipline governing body can and do make minor changes to the rules set
by the FIRS technical committees, but these minor changes are only applicable within the
borders of the United Kingdom.
Additionally each discipline governing body has a constitution to provide a legal setting for
the administration of their individual roller discipline within the UK environment. |

COACH EDUCATION
The British Roller Sports Federation are actively involved in delivering basic (generic) roller skating and skateboarding
coach education skills to coaches who, when having successfully completed a BRSF Level 2 course,
are then equipped with the appropriate and recognised skills now being required by an increasing
number of local authority leisure service departments, education authorities and insurance
companies.
BRSF Coach Education Awards show details of the course attended including the date and
whilst these awards have no term of validity, nor show an expiry date, coaches are
encouraged to attend further coach education courses at regular intervals and to maintain a
Log-Book of Continuing Professional Development.
The BRSF Coach Education Courses are aligned to UK Coaching Certificate Qualifications
Guidance, which have been developed jointly by Sports Coach UK (scUK)
(website)
& UK Coaching Certificate (UKCC). These guidelines have been developed in such a way that a
number of core elements within the BRSF Coach Education program are interchangeable with
similar elements to be found within the coach education programs being delivered by the many
and varied sports across the UK who have also aligned their coach education programs in line
with UKCC Qualifications Guidance, these sports include Gymnastics, Athletics, Swimming and
others.
Each of the roller discipline governing bodies has the opportunity, if they so wish and subject
to suitable audit, to use the BRSF level 2 course as a foundation upon which to overlay their
discipline specific coach education modules.
