| Report on 2005 World Games - Inline Hockey Tournament ~ by George Pickard - President FIRS - CIRILH |
Monday, 10 October 2005 |
| DUISBURG,
GERMANY – The World Games first began in 1981 at Santa Clara,
California. It was formed by twelve international federations to promote their sports which received less attention, compared to Olympic sports, than they deserved. Roller Sports under the aegis of FIRS was one of the original twelve that comprised the International World Games Association (IWGA). The Games have been held every four years, during the year following the Olympic Games, with roller figure skating, roller speed skating and roller hockey taking part in each of these multi-sport activities. The 2005 edition of the World Games is the second time that Germany has been host. Since the humble beginnings in 1981, the World Games have now been expanded to embrace 40 sports, 3500 athletes and encompasses 100 countries. more >>> (this link opens a new page) |
