2006 FIRS Men & Women World Inline Hockey Championships

DETROIT, MICHIGAN, USA - JULY 15 to JULY 22, 2006

Bulletin #2 - March 20, 2006

A state-of-the-art, four rink hockey facility, which is five miles distant from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport has been selected for the 2006 World Inline Hockey Championships. This is an international airport, with some direct flights from Europe and Asia. The name of the arena, which is located in a Western suburb of Detroit, is:

TAYLOR SPORTSPLEX
13333 Telegraph Road
Taylor, Michigan 48180 USA
www.taylorsportsplex.com

During the period of the World Championships, two of the four available hockey rinks within the Sportsplex will be used exclusively for FIRS World Championship teams. The other two smaller rinks will continue in use by the AAU for the USA National Junior Olympics Inline Hockey competitions, which resume in all four rinks once the FIRS teams have departed on July 23, 2006.

Please note that the FIRS World Championships for 2006 have been reduced from 11 days to 8 days for the men and 7 days for the women. This new schedule eliminates 2 days from the Round Robin pool play and now only schedules 1 day of practice before the Championships. This revised schedule will be used on a trial basis this year in an effort to alleviate some of the cost associated with attending the inline hockey world championships, as well as giving a more meaningful competition for teams not previously in the medal round play.

From the BRSF Annual General Meeting Tuesday, 28 February 2006

BRSF Annual General Meeting 2006
Coaching Report

2005 saw significant developments within the coaching initiatives of the BRSF.

There has been a full implementation of the generic level two coach’s course which has led to the qualification of a total of 22 coaches so far. This number includes coaches that were involved in the pilot project run in 2004 but had only completed the practical units of the qualification. They subsequently completed the Sports Coach UK theory modules we ran in 2005 and so gained full qualification.

FIRS - CIRILH Statement (FIRS Website) Saturday, 11 February 2006

Notice of New Team Seeding for the

FIRS World Inline Hockey Championships

Detroit, Michigan, USA - July 15 to 22, 2006

For the past decade, the FIRS World Inline Roller Hockey Championships has used team placements from the previous world championships as basis for seeding the round-robin pools into two or more segments according to a serpentine positioning. While this formula, which is printed in the existing CIRILH Rules Manual, eliminates manipulation of pool designation, and as nearly as possible, equalizes all pools in terms of talent distribution, it also places powerful hockey nations in the same pool as some that are not nearly so developed. This has produced some pairing inequities that are often unfair and perhaps even humbling. We have lived with this system during the past ten world championships, but members suggest it is time to review our pairing philosophy.

FIRS - CIRILH Statement (FIRS website) Friday 10, February 2006

CIRILH OFFICIAL NOTICE:

New Procedure for Game Misconduct Penalties Occurring during a Team’s Final Game at a World Championships

In Duisburg during the Gold Medal game for IWGA World Games of 2005, a brawl was instigated by the losing team, which occurred during the final 7 minutes of the game, with the winning team ahead at that time 5 to 0. The shared frustration of the losing side was expressed in a fist fight that erupted in several places and was ultimately televised all over the world. This was extremely embarrassing to CIRILH by the implication that this was typical of the games played by federation countries.
