British Artistic Skaters take part in
2009 Cup of Europe

Luso, Portugal

Kaylee & Ursula
both Mini (U10) Skaters from the Downlands Artistic Roller Skating Club, Swindon
represented Great Britain at the recent "2009 Cup of Europe" competition.

Kaylee skated in the Mini Solo Dance Class & Ursula skated in the Mini Free Class

Ursula has submitted a video of her competition program (1' 46") and her story to the CBBC website, the opening paragraphs are reproduced below.

I joined an artistic roller skating club when I was five and started to do competitions with them.

Artistic roller skating is just like ice skating on wheels. You perform the same jumps and spins to music. I love performing in front of an audience.

I sometimes get a bit nervous in case I fall. You have to be brave to jump with only a thin costume to protect you.

To be a champion takes lots of practice and I have to get up early each day and practice before school.

  British Senior Dance Champions
Represent Great Britain at the
53rd Senior World Roller Figure Skating Championships

Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei November 2008

The British Roller Sports Federation wish to congratulate
Darren Dyke & Kirsty Chick
in their success at representing Great Britain during the
Senior World Roller Figure Skating Championships,
held in Kaohsiung, Chinese Taipei over the past few days.

Darren & Kirsty's home club is the Phoenix Artistic Roller Skating Club in the Channel Island of Guernsey and there are two comprehensive reports on the club website . The earlier report which describes Darren & Kirsty's passage through the British Championships, which culminated in their selection to represent Great Britain at both "The European's" and "The World's", is actually the second report on the website. The more recent report describes their time at the World Championships.

The earlier report starts with the following paragraph:

A small team of skaters from the Phoenix Artistic Roller Skating Club have just returned from the 2008 Junior & Senior British Roller Skating Championships held in Haywards Heath, Kent. Senior Couple Darren Dyke and Kirsty Chick, following their four year partnership, finally reaped the benefit of all the hard training and commitment by winning the Senior Dance title.

Artistic World Championships 2008 - Inline and Show
November 16, 2008
By Nicola Genchi - Comite International de Patinage Artistique (CIPA)

Great show in the I-SHOU stadium.

It was the time for Inline skating and show. The Inline skating is clearly improving year by year and that's a good thing for the roller sports.

Italy is leading in the ladies while France in the mens. But the long programme will decide the final result.

In the Small Show Competition Italy won its first gold medal followed by Spain and then Italy again. Three completely different shows with different content but very exciting.

The competition reached its top exciting level with the large group competition. After five years the Spanish team let the gold medal to Italy.

The show was amazing. Italy gold medal enjoyed us with a happy and joyful show with the Jokers. Very particular also the Spanish programme interpreting the Clouds in the sky: very well skated and presented. Third show always from Italy, Pinocchio. The costumes and the final result on the rink was really amazing.
