Swindon Skater Hockey Club is a developing inline skater hockey club, with members ranging from 5
years to adults. Owing to its continued success, we are looking to recruit a Head Coach, to ensure
that the club continues to develop each of its member's skills and abilities to their greatest potential.

The post holder will be energetic, motivated and above all flexible in tasks undertaken. You will take
full responsibility for all the clubs training sessions (Tuesdays 2100hrs - 2200hrs, Fridays 1800hrs - 
2000hrs and Saturdays 1200hrs - 1600hrs - 7hrs per week) at locations in Swindon.

You will have high ethical standards in coaching, and be responsible for the development of all club
members, including team coaches. You will have had experience of coaching, preferably in the sport
of Skater Hockey, and already have, or be prepared to undertake a nationally recognised coaching
qualification. You will have excellent communication skills.

FUNDING SEMINAR

Sports clubs in South West Wales have been invited to a seminar
to highlight funding opportunities next week.


Clubs from Swansea, Carmarthenshire and Neath Port Talbot
have been invited by the Sports Council for Wales to a meeting at
The Halliwell Centre, Trinity College, Carmarthen on
Tuesday 16 October, commencing at 19.00

Clubs will be able to find out what is available to them through the
Sports Council's Community Chest and Sportsmatch Cymru programs.

In its 14-year history, Sportsmatch Cymru - together with its commercial partners
has ploughed more than £4 million into more than 1,400 sports projects across Wales.

Chairman Philip Carting said it had made a difference.

"It is vital that the Sports Council for Wales supports clubs
and provides advice to help them develop.
Clubs are at the core of helping the nation to become more physically active,
and also to produce tomorrow's champions."

£5 Million Drive To Recruit Army Of Sports Coaches

24 September 2007

A campaign to recruit 10,000 voluntary community sports coaches in 70 of the most deprived areas of the country was launched today by the Secretary of State for Culture, Media and Sport James Purnell.

The drive will help build strong communities by getting adults and young people involved in activities in their local area. It will also help increase sport participation and help develop sporting talent.

Sports Coach UK

Sports coach UK chief executive Dr Patrick Duffy has welcomed a government scheme to recruit 10,000 voluntary community sports coaches.

The three-year, £5-million national campaign, that will focus on deprived areas of the country, was announced at the Labour Party Conference in Bournemouth by the Secretary for State for Culture, Media and Sport, James Purnell - and will begin from April 2008.

The Right Honourable Mr Purnell MP underlined the important role coaching has to play in communities, encouraging and sustaining participation in sport.

Southport YMCA breaking new ground in Coach Education in Europe

Dr Hamish McD Telfer demonstrates how coaching techniques form other sports can be implemented into Acrobatic/ Half Pipe Inline Skate Coaching to Jenna Downing and Chaz Sands. The first level 3 coach education programme for Acrobatic/ half pipe Inline skating in Europe was held in early September at Rampworx Youth Village in Liverpool this month by Southport YMCA in partnership with the British Roller Sports Federation supported by funding from the Big Lottery Young People’s Fund. Professional Skater Chaz Sands coaching one of the young people from Rampworx Youth Village.

To our knowledge this is the only course in this discipline available outside Woodward, California.

Learners on the programme included world No. 4 female Jenna Downing sponsored by Razors skates, Shifty Skategear and Loco Skate Shop and Razors top European Pro-Aggressive skater Chaz Sands.

Coaches who successfully passed their initial assessment are now provisionally qualified at level 3 and are offered a provisional coaching licence.

A further level 3 coach education programme in Skateboarding is planned for December and Level 2 coaching courses in skating and skateboarding in October/ November 2007.

Are offering a Level 3 Coach Education Course
For
Acrobatic & Half Pipe Inline Skating

Prerequisite:
Aged 16+
BRSF Level 2 Certificate for Generic Roller Skating
Minimum 1 years experience of coaching, teaching or instructing, as well as a valid First Aid Certificate

At the end of this programme learners will be able to:
Deliver safe, well managed activity in Acrobatic/ Half Pipe Skating,
Develop progressive training programmes to prepare athletes for competition,
Apply technical knowledge to Acrobatic/ Half Pipe coaching and
Evaluate and reflect on own coaching practice

Following satisfactory completion of this programme learners will be issued a provisional coaching license valid for 6 months.

Following this period and re-assessment they will be entered into BRSF coaching database as competent at level 3 and attain low cost BRSF insurance.

SOUTHPORT
YMCA SOUTHPORT RUN
LEVEL 2 COACH EDUCATION COURSE FOR SKATEBOARDING

This weekend Southport YMCA has successfully run the first level 2
coach education programme for Skateboarding in Europe.
10 coaches from around the North West attended the course run by
British Roller Sports Federation in partnership with Sports Coach UK
and meets with national standards for coaching, teaching and instructing at level 2.

The first children in the UK from Southport YMCA to try the “Board Smart” programme with our coaches. Teaching on the programme was David Nichols, President and Director of Coaching for British Roller Sports Federation and John Mills, Director of Coaching for British Cycling representing Sports Coach UK.

Southport YMCA now has a team of qualified level 2 skateboard coaches that can teach the basics of safe skateboarding in schools and community venues around Southport. The Board Smart programme, which has been adopted by British Roller Sports Federation was created by the young people of Southport YMCA Bridge Project and will be rolled out nationally in schools.

From September, a BRSF Level 3 Coach education programme for Acrobatic/ Half Pipe skating will run at Rampworx Youth Village in Liverpool.
