Expressions of Interest Sought

A group of Roller Hockey players in Loughborough
are gathering together with a view to re-establishing
Roller Hockey in the area.

This group is looking to recruit former players, and recreational skaters
looking to progress their skating towards a specific roller sport.

Competitive Roller Hockey, which is known in Europe and Internationally as Rink Hockey is played on quad skates using a cane somewhat similar to a field hockey stick with a solid ball weighing 155 gm & 7.2cm(2¾") diameter. Whilst competitive roller hockey is played on quad skates, at a recreational level it can be played on inline skates.

Initially the team will be holding practice sessions in a local leisure/ sports centre in or near Loughborough, the longer term objective is to take part in inter-club competitions.

If you are modestly competent on quad skates, would like to take part in a team activity, with a view to taking part in competitive inter-club games, please contact Sergio Gomes on 07850 100 785, or by email

was broadcast on Meridian TV's evening news program on Wednesday 4th November.

This news report is currently available for viewing on the Meridian TV website (here) The story is accompanied by a short introduction:

It was invented here and has been played in our region for more than one hundred years. Roller hockey games used to fill the stands and, despite dwindling crowds, the sport is still going strong. The skating rink on the pier at Herne Bay in Kent is the spiritual home of the game but there isn't just one team in the town, there's two. But, do they see eye to eye?

It is not known how long the clip will remain available, but try the link and watch an interesting clip.

New Sponsor for Referees Shirts

It is with pleasure that we can announce that for the season of 2009 – 2010,
and for the remainder of this current season the National League referees
will be “shirt” sponsored by rail company NORTHERN
and as such all national league referees shirts will carry the company’s logo.

One of these shirts, will be issued as part of the training package to all those that attend, the rules seminars
(It will be important to attend given the changes to the rules that will be made).

The shirts will also be available to purchase, via Committee for Roller Hockey Referees, and at cup finals day via Slapshot, (they can of course be worn at regional events unless a region already stipulates their own shirts).

A further pale blue shirt will also be produced, being unveiled at Cup Finals Day, for use in National Premier League matches along with all national cup competitions. (Using the black as the change shirt). These will be issued to the referees who will be asked prior to the season beginning or as the season progresses, to officiate in National Premier League games.
