Successful Awards for All Grant Application

South Woodham Rollerspeed and Roller Skating Club have been successful in achieving an Awards for All Grant for £9,500 from the National Lottery to help them develop the sport of Roller Skating (inline skates and traditional skates) and promote their club.

South Woodham Roller Speed Club Speed Skaters with their National Lottery Grant Certficate. As a result of receiving the grant, the club have been able to purchase new equipment and is able to offer free taster sessions of their sport to pupils 8-15 years old in schools, either during curriculum time or after school.

This can then lead to further visits and the running of a six-week Skate Smart programme. (The introductory course teaching the basics of skating endorsed by the BRSF and Federation of Inline Speed Skating.)

Initially taster sessions will be offered in primary schools the half term immediately after Easter holiday (April to May) and the Skate Smart Programme during the following half term (June to July).

The aim of the sessions is to encourage more children to try roller skating and provide a pathway for them to join the club if they wish and progress within the sport.

The rest of the grant has been set aside for training hire costs, speed skates for newcomers and for travel expenses whilst attending International Events.

“If you are applying for an Awards for All Grant there would be two pieces of advice I would give,”
said South Woodham R.S.C’s Chairman Alan Moore.

“Firstly – Never give up.
Our first application wasn’t successful.
Just because your application has been rejected once doesn’t mean to say that you won’t succeed, and
Secondly – Get someone on board with experience of Grant Application forms.
For example we worked very closely with the Sports Development Officer for Chelmsford Borough Council in preparing this application.
Their knowledge could be the difference between an unsuccessful or successful application.”
