FIRS 2008 INTERNATIONAL REFEREE SEMINAR

For Inline Hockey Referees

Friday, 4 July 2008 & Saturday, 5 July 2008
Dusseldorf, Germany

The Comité International de Roller In-Line Hockey will be holding an International Referee Seminar
prior to the FIRS 2008 Inline Hockey World Championships in Dusseldorf, Germany.

The course will be run on site at the World Championships, the venue will be advised to participants.

The two-day seminar will be ideal for National Federations wishing to send candidates to obtain
international accreditation. There will be a charge of 50 US Dollars (or equivalent) per candidate.

Potential candidates must apply through their respective National Federation.

Day 2 of this seminar is also the annual mandatory re-fresher course
for all referees invited to officiate at the 2008 Roller In-Line Hockey World Championships.
There will be no course fee charged to pre-existing Internationally accredited referees.

RETIREMENT ADDRESS
BY OUTGOING CIRILH PRESIDENT
GEORGE PICKARD

I have been associated with the FIRS Inline Hockey Committee since 1994 when I petitioned the FIRS Congress in Portugal to install this sport as the newest of our four roller sports disciplines within this International Federation.

For the past 8 years I have served two terms as the CIRILH President. With your able assistance, we have together achieved remarkable progress for inline hockey development around the world.

During the period from 1995 through 2007, there have been 31 different national federations that participated with inline hockey teams at the FIRS World Championships or at Pan American Games. Among the FIRS member nations, there are now 43 countries which organize inline hockey national championships and/ or compete in FIRS Continental Championships.

At age 77 I have decided not to again stand for election as CIRILH President. It has been 8 years since I retired from a 40 year career as Executive Director of USA Roller Sports and took up this position as your CIRILH President.

This competition was last held in the town of Carvin, in 2001.

It was one of the major tournaments of inline hockey at which the best European teams attended and on several occasions the Team France "Probables" also attended.

This tournament will take place on Saturday 21 & Sunday 22 June, 2008 and will gather, 8 male seniors teams.

The participating teams must be affiliated with a federation recognised by the FIRS ~ The International Federation of Roller Sports

Puckstop, Sheffield are offering a £500 reward to anyone
who provides information which leads to a successful prosecution
of the person or persons responsible for the theft of goods from their shop on
Saturday 6th January.

We would ask all hockey players (ice and inline) to be extremely wary of purchasing any
new equipment which appears to be sold at an unbelievably low price or not from a main supplier.

We do not need to remind you that purchasing stolen goods, even in good faith,
maybe considered by the police as a crime.

The majority of the goods stolen include:-
Long Pants, Hockey Shirts, CCM clothing, TPS clothing, Bauer Clothing.
Some Bauer, CCM, Tour and Nike Inline skates, and some Bauer Ice Skates

George Pickard the president of the FIRS Comite International Roller Inline Hockey has today issued the following statement concerning the 2007 FIRS Roller Inline Hockey World Championships.

Dear FIRS Friends of Inline Roller Hockey:

CIRILH has this week received confirmation from the National Roller Skating Federation of Spain, that their Bilboa City Organizing Committee for the 2007 FIRS World Inline Hockey Championships in Bilboa, Spain have accepted the FIRS recommended dates for the next year's World Inline Hockey World Championships. The Men's championship will practice on July 1st, Round-robin July 2-3-4 and medal finals (single elimination) July 5-6-7, 2007. The Women's championship will follow immediately in the same rink, with practice starting July 8, Round-robin July 9-10-11 and the medal finals begin July 12 -13 -14, 2007.

For the Senior World Inline Hockey Championships, FIRS will continue to use the same seeding plan as initiated during this past year, with the top 8 teams for 2006 going into Group 1 and the remaining teams into Group 2 (two pools for each consisting of 3 games maximum). The lowest finishing team in each of the individual pools of Group 1 will drop down into Group 2 for the FIRS NATIONAL TEAM WORLD CUP competition (with medals), and the top teams from each pool of Group 2 will join Group 1 for World Championship play. This formula keeps the less experienced World Championship teams apart from the strongest, yet every team that enters the FIRS World Inline Hockey Championship is on a direct course toward the World Championship Gold Medal. If you have questions concerning this procedure, please email me and I will send you a complete description of the procedures.

Because of time constraints, the men's FIRS World Inline Hockey Championships for 2007 must be confined to no more than 18 teams. An increase in men's team participation over what was experienced in 2006, in my opinion, is not overly optimistic, since the last World Championship in Spain in 2001 consisted of 16 men's teams. CIRILH is in receipt of indications from Asia as well as Europe of much greater interest in future world championships for inline hockey. All teams participating in last year's world championship will be given priority for entry (13 teams) and new team entry will be assigned to the world championships according to the order of their confirmed and paid applications. It is anticipated that a 60 day deadline will be established, after which any remaining open slots will then be filled with newcomers should there be less than 13 men's teams returning from the 2006 world championships. It does not appear to be a potential problem with accepting all interested National Women team entries.

I have plans to visit Bilboa (located in North-western Spain, near the border of France) during the first week of December 2006 while in Spain for the FIRS Congress scheduled for December 2 in Murcia, Spain during the time of the FIRS Roller Figure Skating World Championship. Afterward, I will have more information pertaining to hotel availability and costs, which I intend to immediately share with you.

Twelve British Ladies and fourteen British Men are currently representing Great Britain at the International Federation of Roller Sports, 2006 Roller Inline Hockey World Championships being played out at the Taylor Sportsplex, Detroit, Michigan, USA.

There are thirteen international teams in the Men's World Championship - Canada, Colombia, Czech Republic, France, Germany, Great Britain, Japan, Korea, Mexico, Romania, Spain, Switzerland & USA and seven international teams in the Women's World Championships - Canada, Czech Republic, France, Great Britain, Japan, Mexico & USA.

Also in Detroit are twelve Under 18's, taking part in the FIRS 6th Junior Roller Inline Hockey World Cup.

Additionally fourteen Under 16's, fourteen Under 14's and fourteen Under 12's, players are taking part in the American Amateur Athletics Union, Inline Hockey "Junior Olympics" taking place in the same sports complex.

These players, with team managers and supporters make up a party of more than 120 people, possibly the largest number of GB roller sports participants and supporters having travelled in a single party to a single event.

We are Shocks d' Elancourt a section of Roller Hockey in Paris area and we organize a Cadets tournament or Tiny outclassed (89/90/91/92) the weekend of May the 6 and 7 2006.

It will proceed Saturday, May 6, 10h00 ~ 19h00, and Sunday, May 7, 09h00 ~ 18h30

Well on, for those which wish it, a solution of lodging for the players the night of Saturday to Sunday could be done in our families. Especially, do not hesitate with us to ask it, it will be a pleasure. For the clubs who are in association and who have a mixture of categories, do not hesitate with us to let it know. One can always find a solution.

A state-of-the-art, four rink hockey facility, which is five miles distant from the Detroit Metropolitan Airport has been selected for the 2006 World Inline Hockey Championships. This is an international airport, with some direct flights from Europe and Asia. The name of the arena, which is located in a Western suburb of Detroit, is:

During the period of the World Championships, two of the four available hockey rinks within the Sportsplex will be used exclusively for FIRS World Championship teams. The other two smaller rinks will continue in use by the AAU for the USA National Junior Olympics Inline Hockey competitions, which resume in all four rinks once the FIRS teams have departed on July 23, 2006.

Please note that the FIRS World Championships for 2006 have been reduced from 11 days to 8 days for the men and 7 days for the women. This new schedule eliminates 2 days from the Round Robin pool play and now only schedules 1 day of practice before the Championships. This revised schedule will be used on a trial basis this year in an effort to alleviate some of the cost associated with attending the inline hockey world championships, as well as giving a more meaningful competition for teams not previously in the medal round play.
